What Men Strive For Will Never Satisfy

"And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life, he who comes to me shall never hunger, and he who believes in me shall never thirst." John 6:35 People spend their lives hungering after that which will not and cannot satisfy. They seek after fame, after prestige, after riches, after success, after accomplishment, after entertainment, yet should they succeed in obtaining these things, still they are not satisfied. Many of the richest and most successful men in the world commit suicide. Why is that? It's because God created us with a God-shaped void inside which cannot be satisfied with anyone or anything other than him. Try as men might, nothing else can or will satisfy except momentarily. The most dangerous thing that can happen to a man is to reach that which he strives for and obtain it, then realize that it has not satisfied him. This is where many go into despair. "He who loves silver will not be satisfied with silver, nor he who loves abundance, with increase." Ecclesiastes 5:10 Jesus Christ is the bread of life that satisfies that hunger and quenches that thirst. Once a man has found the Savior, all other things grow dim and his whole perspective is changed. "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid, and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field." Matthew 13:44 The experience of being born again totally changes a person. When one is born again, he is filled with the Spirit of God, and from then on he seeks the will of God - not from hunger, because he is satisfied - but from intense love for him. The uppermost thing in his mind now becomes the joy of serving Christ with all of his heart. The devotion of his heart becomes "Oh how can I bring others to find you?" That's how powerfully the born-again experience changes a person. If you have been chasing after what you think will satisfy you, but find that nothing does - come to the One who created you and who has a personalized plan for your life that truly WILL satisfy you. You'll not find it any other way, regardless of what you currently think will satisfy you "if only" you can attain it. I pray that you do attain it, so that you will find that it doesn't satisfy, and having realized that - that you might come to the One who DOES. It might be an honor to be called to be a high official in the President's office. Most know they could never aspire to that. But just think - you CAN be an assistant to the Creator of the universe. He who created you also created the plan for your life that alone will be FITTED to you personally, and that which surely will satisfy you if only you turn to him and walk in that plan which he has fashioned for your life. No one else on earth can fulfill your call, nor can you fulfill anyone else's call. Turn to the Lord and ask him to show you HIS call for your life. Do not argue that you have things you must do and don't have time for God. He knows your needs only too well. But he has ordained the way those needs are guaranteed to be filled: “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father KNOWS that you need all these things. But seek FIRST the kingdom of God and his righteousness, AND ALL THESE THINGS SHALL BE ADDED TO YOU." Matthew 6:31-33
