They'll Fall For Anything
“Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed him, ‘If you abide in my Word, you are my disciples indeed; and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.'” John 8:31-32 The converse is also true: if one does not abide in him, he will NOT know the truth. So HOW does one come to know the truth? There is only one way: God did not put us here on earth and say, “Bye now, I hope you make it.” No. He provided his Word for us, his record, his explanations of who he is, who we are, where we’re going and how we’re to get there. The only way to be protected from deception is to feed daily in the Word of God, the Bible. The Word of God is the source of truth. "Jesus said to him, “I am the way, THE TRUTH, and the life." John 14:6 Most Christians who read God’s Word daily will tell you that the Lord never stops revealing more and more truth continually. You can read the Bible for 40 years and you’ll still come across revelation that you had never “seen” before, because God continually reveals truths to you as you continue in his Word. It is forever new. It is forever fresh. The opposite is also true. Persons, including Christians, who do not continuously feed in the Word of God will NOT know the truth, because it is only in the Word that truth is revealed. These are those who will fall for false doctrines that SOUND GOOD. In this generation, there are many men preaching false doctrines and even Christians are falling for them because those men are preaching what people with "itching ears" want to hear – how they can be healthy, wealthy and happy. The men preaching these things deceive many because they will insert Scripture references, which of course makes them SOUND legitimate. The multitudes fall for it. These men will never preach on sin, repentance, hell, or the Cross which we must pick up daily. Their followers only want to hear what is “uplifting.” These men are great deceivers, con-men, wolves in sheep's clothing. We were specifically warned about this: “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; AND THEY WILL TURN THEIR EARS AWAY FROM THE TRUTH, and be turned aside to fables.” 2 Timothy 4:3-4 But a word to remember about the Bible: many people have read the Bible and gotten nothing out of it. Think of the Bible being used as a source in a literature class. Think of anyone reading the Bible for history. Notice that most of these get nothing out of it because they’re reading it without caring about the supernatural power of God to speak to a human heart through his Word. Christian, when you pick up the Bible, always pray, always ask the Holy Spirit to REVEAL his Word to you, for understanding of spiritual things comes only by REVELATION. "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." Psalm 119:105 "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." John 8:32
