Of all the sins man may commit, none is as rigorously condemned in the Bible as involvement in anything of an occult nature. The word “occult” is derived from the Latin word occultus which means "hidden." It refers to the pursuit of hidden things, hidden knowledge, hidden power, hidden supernatural. There are TWO sources of supernatural power: God, and Satan. Satan has a counterfeit for everything of God. For example, mediums and channelers are Satan's counterfeit of Biblical prophecy contained in the Bible. God has made available to us an immense amount of knowledge, incorporated in the books of the Bible. He has revealed what he wants us to know about himself, his purposes, what he wants of us, what it’s all about. In his Word, we are commanded NOT to delve into supernatural things beyond what HE has made available to us. "The secret things belong unto the Lord our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law." Deuteronomy 29:29 Whatever God has and whatever God does, Satan will counterfeit it. For every gift or calling that God gives his people, Satan has a counterfeit. Are there prophets? Then there will also be false prophets. In pursuing new age or occult experiences, one is not only going beyond the bounds of what is allowed to us, but one is actually delving into the kingdom of Satan, and committing, in God's eyes, harlotry, or "spiritual adultery." Turning to occult or new age sources for information, knowledge, or power is a slap in the face to God. One can’t help but notice when reading through the Bible, that this particular offense is the one that angers God the most, and that’s because God requires us to look to him alone for our needs, to look to him alone for anything of a supernatural nature, and to shun all occult activities because they are of Satanic origin. What Are Occult Activities? "There shall not be found among you anyone who: makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, (one who supposedly predicts the future) or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, (a channeler, or one who gets guidance from a “higher” spirit) or one who calls up the dead. For all who do these things are an abomination to the Lord…” Deuteronomy 18:10-12 So occult activity is anything having to do with fortune telling, magic, witchcraft, contacting the dead, etc. Ouija boards, tarot cards, tea leaf reading, palm reading, “psychic” predictions, astrology and horoscopes, and so forth. In short, every attempt to gain supernatural knowledge or guidance or power outside of the Bible is occultism, and the Lord calls it spiritual adultery and says that those who do those things are “an abomination” to God. Results Of Dabbling In The Occult Without exception, those who have become involved in any kind of new age or occultism will eventually suffer Satanic oppression in some manner. For many it's mental illness, in some cases it brings premature death, and the Word of God says the curse can go down to the 3rd and 4th generation. Principle: One does NOT have to be doing this knowingly. Any form of occultism, even in ignorance, will open those doors and oppression is inevitable. Based on research among men of God in the “deliverance” ministry, i.e. those who cast out evil spirits, the notable results of any dabbling in the occult are: 1. Mental illness 2. Deep depression 3. Premature death, especially among the children of those

who have dabbled in the occult 4. Suicide 5. Repeated serious trauma such as houses burning down, car accidents. These things can

happen to anyone and not be related to the occult, but when you see repeated instances of

trauma in a family, occult involvement should be strongly suspected.

The Judgment Usually Spans Generations "You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate me…” Exodus 20:3-5 “…but he by no means clears the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generations…” Numbers 14:18 "…you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate me…” Deuteronomy 5:9 Don't absolve yourself saying that you don't hate him. HE said "If you love me, keep my commandments." John 14:15

“Now Ahaziah fell through the lattice of his upper room in Samaria, and was injured; so he sent messengers and said to them, ‘Go, inquire of Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron, whether I shall recover from this injury.'” 2 Kings 1:2 Ahaziah was the king of Israel at that time and he had an accident, falling from a window ledge and was seriously hurt. So he sent to prophets of the god of Ekron, asking whether he would recover from his injuries. The Lord was displeased, to say the least. He sent HIS prophet, Elijah, to bring HIS word to king Ahaziah saying: vs 6: “Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are sending to inquire of Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron? THEREFORE you shall not come down from the bed to which you have gone up, but you shall surely die.” One who knows the Word of God knows that one of the greatest offenses a person can commit is to seek information from any supernatural source other than God himself, and he’s made that abundantly clear throughout his Word. It is the height of insult that this king of Israel would seek information from a prophet of another god, and he would pay with his life for this sin. In another passage in God’s Word, another king of Israel by the name of Saul needed information in the face of a great decision he had to make, and he went to a psychic medium at Endor. Because of this great sin, he also paid for it with his life. Friends, there are two sources of supernatural power, God and Satan. Demonic spirits have the ability to speak through mediums or channelers, and they can speak a message and then cause what they have spoken to come to pass. Satan also has knowledge of the inquirer’s history, so he can tell him things that no one else has known about that person, or he can give details from the distant past in that person’s life, to cause the inquirer to believe in this medium or channeler or fortune teller. And that’s the point: Satan entertains them with supernatural power in order to get their faith in him, rather than in God alone. It’s spiritual adultery. God has spoken in his Word in many places that seeking information from any supernatural source other than himself is spiritual adultery. There are great penalties for doing so, even if the person does not know better, because seeking out a medium or channeler opens a door into the occult realm, and demonic spirits will come into that person’s life through any door opened to them whether he does it in ignorance or not. To touch the occult is to open a door for demonic spirits into your life. All ventures into the occult bring a curse with them. And when Satan has a way into a person's life, great is the damage he brings, oftentimes even the forfeiting of the person's life or the life of a family member. God has put mankind on this earth and he has presented his Word, the Bible, to them. This book informs the reader who God is, who we are, and all about our relationship to him, what it’s all about, where we’re going and how we’re going to get there. Anyone who has not taken the Word of God and fed upon it, has no excuse. If he violates the Word of God, even in ignorance, there will be great consequences. It's a matter of spiritual principles: just as gravity is a physical law, the consequences of judgment upon involvement in the occult is a spiritual law. Opening a door in the occult invites Satan in. God has placed us here to have a relationship with him, and he has specified the terms of that relationship. He requires that we hold in utter respect all that he is and all that he says. He requires faithfulness, and the spurning of the enemy who so desires to destroy that relationship. Those who will receive the Lord on his terms will enter into a life totally different from the life they led in the world, because their heart is changed. The Lord is their God and those who have made this choice are his people. We have his presence to guide us through every story in our lives, we have the frequent communication and guidance he gives so personally, so individually, and we are the recipients of the love of the great God and creator of all that is. And that is beyond awesome, an incomparable privilege. Decide who you are going to be joined with and make it a serious decision, one you will hold for the rest of your life. “And Elijah came to all the people, and said, ‘How long will you falter between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him.'” 1 Kings 18:20

"I have kept away from the paths of the destroyer. Uphold my steps in your paths, that my footsteps may not slip." Psalm 17:4-5 What are "the paths of the destroyer?" There are principles in the spiritual world just as there are principles in the physical world, for it is the same God who established both. In the physical world, men have studied the laws of atoms, and of heat and and of gravity, etc. and with their growing knowledge they have succeeded in decoding DNA on the micro level, all the way to putting men on the moon on the macro level. There are laws, or principles, in the spiritual world as well. One is the law of sowing and reaping. "Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life." Galatians 6:7-8 This principle is what King David, the author of psalm 17, had in mind when he says he has kept away from "the paths of the destroyer." When a man sins, there will be a consequence. This is a law as sure as the law of gravity. There is one sin that brings very terrible and very obvious results, and that is the sin of spiritual adultery, involvement in the world of the 'New Age' and the occult. The consequences of delving into the supernatural world of the occult are particularly severe, usually resulting in tragedy in the family, mental illness or premature death. And that's not all. The Scriptures tell us that this is so serious that judgment on it goes down to the third and fourth generation of those committing this kind of sin. Why is this so? There are two sources of supernatural power, the power of God and the power of Satan. When a person is in great need of guidance or consolation, he may seek out a medium or fortune teller hoping to receive a word from a loved one who has departed. Or - a person who is discouraged in life might begin seeking in astrology or "New Age" teachings to find ways to make his life better. All this is spiritual adultery. It's trying to connect with supernatural power that is forbidden in the Scriptures. God wants all of our focus to be on him, and when one ventures into the occult they are making contact with the enemy of God, the kingdom of darkness, and that is spiritual adultery. God has made it more than clear throughout his Word that we are to come to him ALONE for guidance, for help, for anything at all that requires supernatural assistance. He says he is "a jealous God." Why? Because he is the Most High, he is Almighty God, he is our creator, it is he who brought us into the world, and he demands that we revere him ALONE. Any attempt to receive from the supernatural world outside of him alone is the sin of spiritual adultery. Adultery says "you're not enough for me." Adultery tempts with intrigue, and aren't all men intrigued by the supernatural world? But if this intrigue leads one to someone other than the Lord himself, that is spiritual adultery. Deuteronomy chapter 18 starting with verse 10, lists several occult practices so that no one will be unclear on this subject. Among those severely warned against are mediums, spiritists, and necromancy (which is trying to make contact with the dead.) Read it, there are many listed there. The passage goes on to say that any PERSON who delves into any of these things, that person is "an abomination to the Lord." That means that if you have delved into any of these practices, no matter how trivial they may seem to you, YOU have become "an abomination to the Lord." "And the person who turns to mediums and familiar spirits, to prostitute himself with them, I WILL SET MY FACE AGAINST THAT PERSON..." Leviticus 20:6 If you are a victim of such afflictions, if you see a pattern in your family of accidents, tragedies, premature death or mental illness, then you will need to deal with this before the Lord, confessing these sins and the sins of your parents or grandparents known and unknown. The only way to be set free from this spiritual law is confession and repentance, and it will be a terrible battle, Satan won't give up on his control over your life easily. Better not to get involved in these things in the first place. Better to keep your feet AWAY from "the paths of the destroyer."
