What Is Instinct? HOW Do They Know?

"O Lord, how manifold are your works! In wisdom you have made them all. The earth is full of your possessions― this great and wide sea, in which are innumerable teeming things, living things both small and great." Psalm 104:24-25 It is awesome to meditate on the wonders of God's creation. Truly has he made them all in wisdom. I love to look at the animals and observe the "instinct" God has placed in each of them. HOW does the salmon know to swim upstream to the place where it was spawned? How does the squirrel know to forage and store up food for the winter? Indeed, how does the squirrel know that there will BE a winter? How does the bear know to spend the winter in hibernation, without eating or drinking? How do the birds know to migrate south for the winter? How do they know how to fly in formation? What is the attraction of male to female and female to male in every species, which perpetuates the species? Where does that come from? How are dogs attracted to dogs and not to cats? Why not to cats? Indeed, who created this diversity in animals, and fitted each kind with its own "instincts?" What IS instinct? Who Can explain it? It's awesome also to ponder the provision God has placed in all of nature to keep his creation alive. vs 10-13 "He sends the springs into the valleys, they flow among the hills; they give drink to every beast of the field; the wild donkeys quench their thirst. By them the birds of the heavens have their home; they sing among the branches. He waters the hills from his upper chambers. The earth is satisfied with the fruit of your works!" What a wonder to observe how the Lord has provided springs of water to satisfy the earth and to bring forth food from the ground! How else can one explain the ecology of the earth? What a wonder to observe how perfectly it all works together! vs 14: "He causes the grass to grow for the cattle, and vegetation for the service of man, that he may bring forth food from the earth…" When you consider how the world was made with everything provided for every man and beast, how can one not bring praise to the God of Wonders who has orchestrated it all! Indeed, if one takes the time to consider all these things, how cannot the heart but swell in adoration to the One who created it! vs 33: "I will sing to the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have my being." Watch this clip and let your heart soar! Oh halleluyah, praise the Lord God forever! If you have any doubts, this will be a great help to you.
