What God Has Prepared Beforehand For You

Jesus prayed, "I have glorified you on the earth. I have finished the work which you have given me to do." John 17:4 Jesus Christ set the example for all his followers. What is the most important thing in a believer's life? To finish the work God has given each one to do, and in doing so, to glorify the Father. Many believers go through life with nary a thought of what his assignment might be. Some don't even realize that they've been given an assignment, a purpose, at all. But every born-again believer has been fitted and gifted according to the specific plan of God for their lives. That plan is unique to the individual - that is, there is no one on earth who can fulfill the plan God has assigned to YOU. God has placed you where he wants you to be, whether in a city, in a rural setting, in a specific church, in a specific job, with specific acquaintances, a chosen audience. In short, God has gone before you and arranged that you be in the right place at the right time with the right people you're called to minister to. It's all his doing. "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, WHICH GOD PREPARED BEFOREHAND that we should walk in them." Ephesians 2:10 You are his workmanship. There is not another just like you on the face of the earth past or present. When you were conceived God had already planned what your gifts and talents would be, and what your personality would be, your makeup, the way you are wired. It was all deliberate. There is nothing left to chance in the product called YOU. In years past we knew that fingerprints were specific to one person only, but now we know that a person’s entire DNA is specific to that one person in the whole universe – that’s the way God created it. He MEANT for you to be special, unique in all of creation. Even your weaknesses and afflictions are pre-planned. Do you have an illness? If so, that provides you with a whole company of people you will be in contact with, doctors, nurses, aides, etc. You should be seeking God for how he would have you interact with these people for they are the very people that make up your story. And so it is with all situations in our lives. Our situations create opportunities, opportunities that only we can fulfill. Maybe you feel you don’t have anything to offer. Don’t believe that lie - every person has the gifts and callings necessary for their particular purpose. There's a good chance in any situation in your life that you're the only believer among those who are there. Do you work for a harsh boss? Is there someone at your job site who vexes you? Rather than commiserate, bring that person to God in prayer and then you will be ready should the Lord open an opportunity for you to reach out to that person. Or your prayers might bring someone else into that person’s life to reach him/her. That’s how important prayer is. It must start with prayer. Seek to know from God as Jesus did, what he will have you do. Before you do anything, put in the prayer time, for all of our works depend on prayer. The Scripture in John noted above portrays Jesus Christ in prayer, setting the example for us to know how to begin. If we don't put in the prayer time, we fight a losing battle. Prayer is the foundation for all our works, just as Jesus himself demonstrated. Do not let your life be so busy that you neglect the most important thing in life, the time you spend with the Lord in prayer, for it is the foundation for all you'll do.
