The Great 'Day Of The Lord'

The Lord draws his line in the sand. You want to fight against me, my land, my people, and my holy city? Ok, come. "For I will gather all the nations to battle against Jerusalem; The city shall be taken, the houses rifled, and the women ravished. Half of the city shall go into captivity..." Zechariah 14:2 When the nations gather for the last battle against Jerusalem, they will be met by the God of Israel himself. He will once and for all bring an end to all who come to oppose him. All rebellion and hatred will be put down on this day - as multitudes fall. vs 3: "Then THE LORD will go forth and fight against those nations, as he fights in the day of battle." This is the great "Day of the Lord," when Jesus Christ himself comes from heaven to destroy all enemies, to rescue Israel, and to establish his Kingdom on the earth where he will rule and reign in righteousness upon the Throne of David in Jerusalem. When his foot touches down upon the earth, there will be a huge earthquake: vs 4: "And in that day his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, which faces Jerusalem on the east; and the Mount of Olives shall be split in two, from east to west, making a very large valley..." The war will be nuclear. Imagine Zechariah so many thousands of years ago trying to describe what he saw in his prophecy. The word "nuclear" didn't exist then. But he describes it in such a way that the people in our generation will quickly understand the picture he's presenting: vs 12: "Their flesh shall dissolve while they stand on their feet, their eyes shall dissolve in their sockets, and their tongues shall dissolve in their mouths." Jesus Christ will "trample down the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored." This is the final day of the Great Tribulation when God will put down all rebellion against him. Interestingly, he points out specifically that there will be no Palestinian left in the land. The Palestinians, like the ancient Philistines, were descendants of the Canaanites. In Hebrew, “Palestinian” and “Philistine” are the same word: vs 21: "In that day there shall no longer be a Canaanite in the house of the Lord of Hosts." "Howl, O gate; cry, O city; thou, whole Palestina, art dissolved; for there shall come from the north a smoke, and none shall be alone in his appointed times." Isaiah 14:31 All terrorism will stop. vs 11: "And no longer shall there be utter destruction, but Jerusalem shall be safely inhabited." There are many wars and horrors to come, but we have the consolation of knowing the end of it. The wars will cease. Terrorism will cease. And Jesus himself will rule over all the earth in righteousness, and all will know him. "No more shall every man teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they all shall know me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the Lord." Jeremiah 31:34 "For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea." Habakkuk 2:14 All will know who God is. All will know Jesus Christ who will be reigning over all the earth from Jerusalem. Satan will be bound. There will be no more abortions, no more homosexuality, no more terrorism. Righteousness will reign over all the earth. And there will be peace.
